The Hub City Railroad Museum is located in the former Southern Railway Depot Baggage Room. It showcases the history of Spartanburg's railroads and two major industries: textiles and peaches. Come and visit the Hub City Railroad Museum which is a project of the Carolina Railroad Heritage Association. The museum showcases the important railroad history of the Hub City. The history of the area from summertime peaches, to textile mills, to the railroad car shops is woven together with the history of the city/county of Spartanburg. See how the Southern Railway, Clinchfield Railroad, Charleston Western Carolina Railroad,
Piedmont & Northern Railway, Glenn Springs Railroad, Pacolet Mill Railroad and the Spartanburg Street Railway served the Hub City.
The museum affords great views of both Norfolk Southern's Crescent Line as well as CSX's former Clinchfield Railroad line and the Belton and Greenville Subdivisions. Railfans are always welcome. The museum also features a Southern Railway caboose that was made right here in Spartanburg in 1947 with a viewing deck to watch NS trains. Virtual Railfan cameras afford views of the NS mainline from the comfort of your home. Admission is free; donations are gladly accepted. There are gift shops in the museum and the caboose.
