The Museum is located in the historic Southern Railway Spartanburg Union Depot at 298 Magnolia Street. Take a step back into history and learn about how the railroads were connected to the textile and peach industries in SC. Learn about the development of railroading in Spartanburg and the Upstate of SC. Check out the display about the Hayne Car Shops that once employed 1,100 to maintain Southern Railway’s fleet of railroad cars. Learn to become a telegrapher with the operating telegraph system. Ring the 1940 locomotive bell. Visit the gift shop for railroad themed items. The Southern Railway Caboose has undergone a major renovation and is now open to the public, and the trackside observation deck is available for you to view the Norfolk Southern trains that pass by the depot. Located in the Museum is a dispatcher-like ATCS display of train locations along the NS, in real time. The gift shop in the Caboose has model train items, while in the Museum we have tee shirts, books and other items for sale. The inventory changes periodically, as we receive donations of various scale model trains.
